Beauty Is In The Details

There is really only one consideration if yo want to add a wall niche to a room or a hallway. It has to do with the framing of the wall that it is going into—is it a normal (2 x 4) wall construction, or something deeper? Many new homes are constructed using a “24 inch stud spacing”, which is wider than the older standard of 16 inches spacing.

Most of the wall niches available to you will be made to fit into a 2 x 4 wall, between 16” spacing of the stud framing.

But because polyurethane is so light, niches can be friction fit into drywall and glued to the face of it, so framing doesn’t matter as much. If you can catch it at the design/ framing stages, it is even possible to get some wider or deeper models.
